How to say the sounds
It is most important that children pronounce the sounds clearly. To help you support your child with this there are documents below with guidance how to say the sounds. You can also follow the link which gives access to the parent's area on the Little Wandle website.
Scroll down the page to the 'Support for phonics' tab and there are three film clips that demonstrate the correct way to say the Phase 2 and 3 letter sounds.
For further practise, the following clip features Tami Reis-Frankfort who is a reading specialist and trainer. She demonstrates how to pronounce all the sounds of the English Phonic Code, when teaching children to read with Synthetic Phonics. There is a pause after each sound for you to repeat the sounds.
Phonics Screening Check
The Phonics Screening Check is a quick check of your child's ability to decode words using only his or her phonic knowledge. The check is statutory and takes place in the summer term (June) when children are in Year 1.
Further information is available in the presentation below.
Also below is a sound mat which includes all the sounds and how they are represented as letters in addition to a document describing how to say the sounds. Follow the link to the parent section of the Little Wandle website which has videos of how to say the sounds.
